What about Mt. Zen Cafe?

Filed under: Twelve Hours from San Francisco — Laura Moncur @ 5:00 am

“What about Mt. Zen Cafe?” Angie handed Sierra a computer printed rendering of the restaurant. There was a photo of the coffee shop that had been Photoshopped with a new sign saying, “Mt. Zen Cafe.” Angie explained to Sierra, “You know that Chinese guy who came here to ski all season?” Sierra nodded, “Yes. His name is Kevin. He’s staying with us.” Angie was surprised. “He is? I thought he was from China.” Sierra smiled, “No, he’s from San Francisco, like me. We actually went to the same high school together.” Angie shook her head, “He’s not on the Chinese Olympic Team?” Sierra laughed out loud, still looking at the rendering. “No, did he tell you he was?” Angie looked to the roof of the cafe as if the answer was up there. “No, I guess he didn’t.”

“Anyway,” Angie continued, “That Chin… Kevin? Yeah, Kevin, was telling me and Dora that we should call the place Mt. Zen Coffee, but Dora thought that we do so much more than coffee, so it should be Mt. Zen Cafe and then all three of us thought that was good. The next day, Dora brought me this.” She pointed at the photoshopped artwork. “Good job of Randy’s, by the way. Roscoe says Dora is turned around and usin’ the computer all the time. Dunno what he said to her, but he musta talked some sense into her. See how good she done puttin’ the new sign up and everything?”

Actually, Dora’s work was amateurish. Even though Randy wasn’t an artist, she knew he could do better with Photoshop. Some of the things she had seen on Worth1000.com had been so good they looked real. This photo looked pretty bad in comparison, but she wasn’t going to say anything negative about it.

“Actually, Kevin was bugging me about this and I looked up business names. You can call yourself Mt. Zen anything because no one is using that name at all. I think Kevin is the only one who calls it Mt. Zen.” Angie took back the photo from Sierra. “Not anymore.”
