Celebratory Egg Thing

Filed under: Merriton — Laura Moncur @ 5:00 am

“Wow! It seems like I haven’t seen you guys for a month or so.” Angie called to them from the counter as they walked in. James, John, Kevin, Bree, Sierra and Randy were dusty from the field, but the planting was over and it was time for celebration. Sierra was the first to order, “Egg Thing.” Angie wrote down her order and continued talking, “Last time I saw you guys, you were celebrating the Snow Eater and I don’t see hide or tail of you for a month.” Sierra nodded and smiled a happy, and exhausted smile. “We just finished planting at The Thunder Brothers Ranch.”

Kevin chimed in, “It’s time for the celebratory Egg Thing!” Randy crinkled his nose, but the rest of them started singing,

Egg Thing!
You make my heart sing!
You make EVERY thing… groovy…
Egg Thing!

They ordered their Egg Things and sat down at the only table big enough to hold all of them. Randy stopped the singing. “You don’t even know what’s in them. Doesn’t that make you nervous?” Bree shrugged and answered first, “It’s not like Curly is going to feed us something inedible. It tastes good. We know the main ingredient is eggs. What more do you need to know?”

Randy shrugged. “It’s just that he’s so secretive about it. He wouldn’t even tell you what goes in the Egg Thing and you worked there almost all winter.” Sierra laughed. “I once tried to find out what Curly puts in Egg Thing by asking if it was vegan or not.” Kevin asked, “What’d they say?” Sierra smiled, remembering Angie’s answer, “She said, ‘If you’re vegan, you shouldn’t be ordering anything called Egg Thing.’”

They all laughed as their orders arrived.

Randy started eating his biscuits and gravy while the rest of them marveled at Curly’s concoction.
